MacBook Pro Review

Touted as Apple’s fastest and most powerful notebook computer, the MacBook Pro comes in 13-, 15-, and 17-inch models. Built on the cutting-edge Leopard OS X platform, it’s powered by Intel Core i5 and i7 processors for optimum speed. All come with NVIDIA graphics, which take apps, 3D games and video to a whole new level.

At First Glance

The first thing you’ll notice about the Apple MacBook Pro is its patented aluminum unibody. This already sets it apart from other laptop computers. Made from a single piece of high-grade aluminum, the unibody is light yet sturdy, protecting the notebook’s components. Though sleek and refined in design, this notebook can withstand large amounts of handling. Design precision continues on the MacBook Pro’s The LED-backlit display, which along with the graphics processor makes a truly vivid and crisp display for videos, photos, artwork and the like. Unlike fluorescent lamps, the LED backlight reaches maximum brightness instantly while also conserving energy as it requires 30 percent less power than a CCFL display.

Notable Features and Highlights

High Performance Intel Core power. The Apple MacBook Pro’s 15-inch and 17-inch models are powered by Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors, the fastest dual-core processors available. These processors include Turbo Boost which can dynamically increase speeds of both cores, pumping up a 2.66GHz MacBook Pro to 3.33 GHz. This is great if you are running processor-intensive applications, making your work experience seamless and fluid. Built-in Hyper Threading enables Mac OS X to recognize four virtual cores so that the Core i5 and Core i7 processors spread tasks evenly among cores, making for a smoothing overall working experience when you’re using multiple applications. Finally, the integrated memory controller allows each core to process data with up to 4MB of shared L3 cache.

High Performance Graphics. The MacBook’s 15- and 17-inch models come with the integrated Intel HD Graphics and the new NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics processor, the fastest graphics ever. Delivering even more horsepower than the previous generation, this graphics processor features 48 processing cores and up to 512MB of dedicated video memory. What’s more, it’s 30 percent more energy efficient than previous generations. Automatic graphics switching switches graphics processors, which transfer workloads between the NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M and Intel HP Graphics automatically and seamlessly, without having to log out, shut down or changing your preferences.

Energy Efficiency. The Apple MacBook Pro is ENERGY STAR 5.0 compliant, meaning that it meets government standards for energy efficiency. It’s known to have a longer lasting battery life than other laptops, with the 13-inch model lasting for up to 10 hours on a single charge, with 1000 full charge and discharge cycles. Breakthrough Apple software in the notebook is able to inform the hard drive to spin down while it’s not being used. Likewise, display and battery indicator lights are programmed to dim in low-light conditions. The energy-efficient software also informs whether the CPU or the graphics processor would be more suited to a specific task.

In Conclusion

There’s no doubt that this powerhouse of a notebook is Apple at its best. With powerful processing power, boosted memory, cutting-edge graphics and energy efficient features, there is no question that the Apple MacBook Pro takes Mac performance to a whole new level of experience.
