Alienware laptops are famous for their unworldly designs, but the Alienware M17x gaming laptop computer goes for the high-tech style making it look like a serious gaming laptop.

The 17-inch widescreen display is just enough for watching breathtaking cut-scenes and diving deep into the latest 3-D games without any loss of detail.

The HD1200p resolution ensures that visuals are clear with all the right colors. The screen alone makes this a suitable multimedia laptop as well.

Alienware M17x Gaming Laptop Computer First Glance

When it comes to doing work and personal things on the computer, system specifications aren't that much of a big deal. Most modern laptops are capable of doing all the basic tasks without the users suffering from major slowdowns. However, when it comes to intensive 3-D gaming, the specs need to be much greater in order to handle the most visual games. Often times laptops take the back seat to give way to powerful desktop computers with advanced video cards, but now gaming laptops like the Alienware M17x are gaining momentum as more powerful specs are being miniaturized.

The overall design is not just about looks either because the anodized aluminum case is used to manage hot temperatures generated from prolonged gaming rather well. The casing doubles as a shield that protects all of the delicate components making this a stylish and sturdy system. There is even a nice plaque that can be personalized for those that want their M17x custom-built.

 Notable Features and Highlights

The Alienware M17x aims to be the best gaming laptop ever by having two NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280M GPUs which makes this already better than any desktop computers with a single graphics card. It is also powered by an Intel branded Core 2 Quad Extreme QX9300 which translates to 2.53 GHz of quad-core power with a 12 MB shared L2 cache and 1066 MHz Front Side Bus (FSB). These two hardware specifications alone make it reliable for playing any modern game at max resolutions while maintaining smooth frame rates. Overclocking is also supported for even faster performance.

The 2.0 megapixel webcam and built-in microphone is useful for communicating with other gamers. One of the unique things about the webcam aside from the high megapixel count for a laptop is the AlienSense facial recognition technology that can be used as an extra layer of security when it comes to user authentication.

Power-saving functions are implemented as well with two different modes to help save power usage. The Binary GFX technology lets users select between the integrated graphics and the discrete so the maximum power can only be utilized when the most resource-intensive games are playing. The stealth mode can save even more power by turning off the discrete graphics cards and toning down the performance of other components so that the power limit finalizes at around 65W.  Overall Value

Although the Alienware 17x is intended to be a gaming system, it can also be used as a powerful multimedia laptop with the Blu-ray drive that it includes. The base price is quite low for a gaming laptop as well making it a top recommendation for any gamer or laptop enthusiast.
