Averatec The Averatec 6130 Notebook

]]]]>]]>

Averatec 6130 Review: The AV6130HS is a desktop PC crammed into the body of a laptop. There are few other notebooks that offer this much in the way of performance and feature sets for so little money. The Averatec 6130 is the answer to the prayers of those who want mobility and power at an exceptional price.

The system weighs a hefty 7.7 pounds and is very stylish with a metallic-looking housing that measures just 1.4 inches thick. Adding to its appeal is the 15.4-inch widescreen display, 802.11g Wi-Fi, and very good graphics.

The center of this value-priced performer is a 3.0GHZ Pentium 4 processor. The CPU is a desktop chip which reduces battery life considerably.

If you like using some of the P4's power for gameplay, you'll be glad to find an ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 video adapter with 64MB of dedicated graphics memory in the Averatec 6130. A very nice feature in this price range.

Whether you're watching a DVD movie, playing games, or punching through a spreadsheet, you'll love the Averatec 6130 15.4-inch WXGA display. It has a screen resolution of 1280x800 and an aspect ratio of 16:10, which is virtually identical to the DVD standard of 16:9. The integrated speakers are average, but if you connect to a set of headphones or external speakers the sound is greatly enhanced.

With the inclusion of a FireWire port and a DVD+/-RW drive, you can burn DVD's too. The included copy of CyberLink PowerProducer allows you to walk through the process of making your own movie by selecting the media type, video quality, and source (such as a camcorder), and then viewing and editing each scene. Then you just burn it to a disc.

Thanks to three USB 2.0 ports, an SD/MMC/MS Media Reader slot, and an IR port, you'll be able to connect any peripheral accessory you can think of.

In all, the Averatec 6130 is a top-notch laptop computer with plenty of power and features that anyone can afford.
