M35 S320 Toshiba Review: With Toshiba's Satellite M35, you can throw out your old desktop and never give it a second thought. This notebook has more than enough power for office applications, plus top-notch graphics and Harman Kardon speakers to make it a great entertainment center too.

The first feature that you'll probably notice is the 15.4-inch screen. Instead of the typical 4:3 aspect ratio, the M35 S320 Toshiba offers a 1280x800-pixel WXGA display that comes much closer to the 16:9 aspect ratio used for DVD movies. The display is bright and crisp and perfectly suited for multi-tasking on two windows placed side-by-side.

With a capable Pentium M processor and DVD motion-compensation circuitry built into the systems NVIDIA GeForce Go 5200 graphics accelerator, the Satellite M35 displays movies without any choppiness between frames. Although the M35's 32MB of dedicated video memory won't compete with a high-end desktop card, this video adapter makes the Toshiba a decent gaming console excluding 3D apps.

Because of the wide 14.1-inch frame required to support the system's widescreen display, the M35's keyboard has plenty of room to spread out. Toshiba has designed one of the most comfortable keyboards you'll find on a thin and light system.

The port layout is just as convenient, with three USB 2.0 ports along the right panel and a FireWire port on the left grouped with a PC card slot and a Secure Digital card reader. Turning the 802.11b wireless on and off is a snap, thanks to the Wi-Fi switch and a very handy status-indicator light on the front panel. A very nice design feature.

Considering the wealth of features the Toshiba M35 offers, like a widescreen display, 802.11b wireless, DVD/CD-RW drive, and four hours of battery life, the Toshiba Satellite M35 is a strong value for anyone willing to sacrifice a little portability for added features and longer battery life.
